About

I stepped in front of my first class of students more than 20 years ago, shortly after returning to western NY, just weeks after finishing my Masters program at Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. Although I did my student teaching in Nashville, my entire professional teaching career was in New York State. I grew up around Rochester and have been in the Buffalo area since my return.

As a middle and high schooler, I belonged to the Yorkers History Club (extracurricular club for NYS students interested in NYS history.) Which is to say, I have a deep and abiding love for the Empire State.

In this series, I look at New York State education history – from school district naming conventions to significant figures and everything in between.
